Train to Dublin. How early?!

Options
Hey All,

Going to Dublin on the train for the day on Saturday.

It leaves Central Station at 8am. Heard rumours that you need to be there early if you want to sit together (theres 3 of us) aa its normally packed.

Has anyone been before on a Saturday? How early would we nees to be there?! Tickets also need collectes first.

Many thanks!

My rule is 30 mins ahead. Time to get tickets, get coffee and get in the queue. Train usually opens for boarding at 740/745.

You can reserve seats when you book. I always get there at least 30mins before and queue right away, but I don't reserve seats.

If your thinking of doing any shopping the tourist euro rate is near parity for sterling.

Dublin is an pricey city now for most things

You can only reserve when booking from Dublin through the Irish system. NIR doesn't have the capability for this unless things have changed very recently!

I would get there about 3am to beat the hordes of pensioners - they love queuing! Seriously, every time I'm in Central Station there's a queue for the Enterprise, even when it's 45 minutes to departure time

  • Went to Dublin a few weeks back and people were queuing 45 mins before the train was even due. One person started to queue and then half the station were on their feet queuing with him. We always send the faster of us on down to try and get seats because it can get a bit crazy.
