Anxiety illness at work
Comments

I understand how horrible panic attack are, i've been having them since i was 13 and im 31 this year

In regards to sick leave as others have said generally its a week of self certfying then after that you need a fit note (though this may vary by company best to check)
Hopefully the blockers will help with your racing heart and anxiety. I had a a friend whos on them and he says they have helped immensly (he too had to have heart checks to rule out anything physical).
In regards to work, is it stuff at work that is triggering the panic attacks? Mine are triggered by stress, my managers are aware and if i have one at work they turn a blind eye to me trying to calm myself down (i once had one in front of my area mamager who ended up getting me a paper bag to breathe into to try and calm me down, that was someewhat embarassing
) and taking 5-10 mins to sort myself out. There are various techniques out there that can help
One that wordsfor me is called grounding:
You think of 5 things you can see
4 things you can touch
4 things you can hear
2 things you can smell
and 1 thing you can taste.
Feels a bit silly doing it but its helped me and other colleagues who've had panic attacks. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
