Smart Parking - Parking Charge Notice 10.08.2017

Hello forum members,

Hope you are all well!

I would like to get advice on a Parking Charge Notice I received from Smart Parking on 10.08.2017. The date of contravention was 05.08.2017. The initial payment is for £60, but will increase to £100 if not paid within 14 days.

I understand the reason why I received the PCN, because the car in question was parked longer than it should've have. So I want to find out if it's best to pay this or not pay it at all? If you guys think I shouldn't pay it - what should I expect from Smart Parking going forward if they carry on pursuing for payment?

I'm very new to this and have seen several threads where people have been advised not to pay Smart Parking.

Thanks in advance!

Please read the NEWBIES thread, submit (online) the template advised for BPA members. Easy!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

No one here will tell you to pay a private company an extortionate amount of money for a minor transgression.

Do please read the NEWBIES FAQ sticky - post #1 will do for now, and send the blue text initial appeal template by the method shown in the letter you've received, and by their deadline (normally 28 days).

It was just over an hour. Do you think I should still send template and not pay?

Read up as advised. Don't pay.

You will see in the FAQ thread not to reveal who was driving.

So edit your posts to remove details of who was driving

The ppcs monitor this forum and can use your posts against you

    Obviously!

A keeper will win v Smart. It's a no-brainer! Do not imply who was driving, use the template.

yes I do, but I was hoping the answer would have been between 5 and 20 minutes, as GRACE PERIODS would have covered it , which they wont for 60 minutes

Doesn't matter though, it's Smart, who can't hold keepers liable and will cancel when sussed.

So after reading the Newbies thread #1 post - I understand I should copy the template appeal for BPA members. Do I copy and paste the template with the relevant information in the 'appeal 'box' they have to state my reason(s) for appeal? Please see this link: imgur.com/a/8O5fE

Just want to make sure as Smart Parking does not seem to have an email I could appeal the claim unless its for their Parking Charge Enquiries: info@smartparking.com

Also - this appeal should be done ASAP or closer to the deadline (as I have seen a few threads suggesting this)?

    Thanks

Just paste the blue text appeal for BPA members into the Reasons for Appeal box. If there is a character limit you exceed in doing so, then just type in the box 'I am not liable for this charge', then go to the next page and attach the blue text appeal to it. Do not add anything to or remove anything from the template text.

Beware of any dropdown box that defaults to 'I was the driver'.
Also - this appeal should be done ASAP or closer to the deadline (as I have seen a few threads suggesting this)?
Delaying to closer to the deadline is a tactic we recommend for windscreen PCNs or cases where byelaws apply (railways, docks, harbours and airports) and there is a need to drag out the whole process beyond the stage where a criminal prosecution might be pursued.

None of the above apply in your case. So just make sure you get it in at any time within the deadline.
