They will publicise that there are unclaimed prizes and know at which outlet a winning ticket was purchased. However there is a time limit of 180 days after which the unclaimed money goes to National Lottery funded projects. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

How can they?
You don't have to give your personal details when you buy a ticket.0 -
If you play on the National Lottery website they take some of your details including email address and in this instance they send a message to advise you to look at your National Lottery account. Smaller amounts are credited to your account, but I think you have to contact them with regard to claims for bigger prizes. Otherwise, it's up to ticket holders to claim any prizes within the 180 days.0

No, that's one of the main reasons they brought in the raffle prizes for lotto as more of those go unclaimed then anything and that bumps up the figures for the amount raised for charity despite continued falling ticket sales.0 -
If the winning tickets are bought from a shop rather than on line, they know which shop it was sold from. Sometimes they focus publicising winning tickets to a region, but generally no, they don't track down.0
