Newbie saying hi

Hi,
So I have been lurking in the back ground for a while (same can be said for my finances lol) I was doing ok financially, earning and spending..... why wouldn't I have a catalogue, credit card or loan, after all as a nurse I just had to work a couple of extra weekend shifts...... and then a series of health problems left me unable to do the extra shifts and having to move to a Monday to Friday job with no extra duty payments cutting my salary considerably. I have been juggling my finances continually for about 6 years now and did go down the payday loan (Although I managed to stop that habit 2 years ago) route. I have robbed Peter to pay Paul and vice versa...... Finally this month after realising after my bills and petrol for the month I had a grand total of £3.47 to buy food etc I decided it was time to act and I contacted SC and have started a DMP. I can't tell you how good it feels. Along side that I am awaiting the results of about 9 PPI claims. Here's hoping. I think this board is fab, it gives you the understanding and confidence to deal with this head on. Thank you
tash

    Hi Tasha,

    Welcome to the forum.

We have a dedicated DMP thread in the stickies at the top of the forum, if you have any questions, no matter how trivial, someone will always answer you.

Good luck with those PPI claims too.

  • HI Tash. I am a sort of newbie, although been lingering in the background for a while, but this weekend decided enough is enough and it's time to get sorted! Good luck with your journey.

    Hi,
thanks, you too. It is such a relief, I can't even begin to tell you. I have been scrabbling round for money to get through to my next payday for years. I am lucky that I managed not to default or put my house at risk. Just set up my new bank account and for the first time ever I will see my full wages. On average I was paying about £600 per month on debt repayment, that is now £171! My plan is to clear this as soon as possible, so I have signed up to websites such as cat in a flat and the one where you offer storage space (don't you just love this site) and am hoping to pay extra every couple of months.
All of those thought processes that I was wasting, just finding ways to get through the month, I can now use to plan how to be come completely debt free x

    Tasha,

Just be aware that some of your creditors may mark your credit file as "AP" (arrangement to pay) instead of defaulting you.

"AP" markers stay on your file a further 6 years from when the debt is settled, as a pose to a default staying there just 6 years in total from date of default.

Just something you may want to be aware of.

    Hi,
Thank you Sourcrates think I am in the honeymoon period lol, just the act of recognising and starting to deal with my debts is making me feel good. I was aware that this would stay on my credit file for a long time, but far less than if I didn't start dealing with it , and the situation got worse x

    Hi,
It is a good feeling isn't it. I have done everything through SC, the charity that my (genuinely helpful) credit card people advised. I get paid on Friday and for the first time in years my wages won't all be eaten up by debt repayment ::j

  • Hi
I'm new too! Finally realised I could borrow no more and not make repayments without more debt.
I used to work full time then got really I'll with depression and am now only part time. Getting well and hope to get back full next year.
I've just set up a dmp with Step change who Next and M&S (who have been very helpful) but me in touch with. If it all works got I'm going from debt repayments of 1100 to 280!
The relief of telling hubs the crap I was in and actually addressing it is wonderful.
    New account opened today.
I'm so grateful for the advice on here.
