Low/zero alcohol 'wines'... any good?

I noticed the other day that my local Tesco had a shelf given over to a range of these drinks. For some time I've been trying to cut down on my alcohol intake and have been wondering whether something of this sort would come along.
A couple of years ago I switched my beer drinking, small as it was, to things like Beck's Blue and Bavaria which I find quite authentic as regards taste.
The last time I tried an alcohol free wine however, admittedly many years ago when the technology maybe wasn't as good as today's, the thing was absolutely awful. It's always struck me that, far more than with beers, the alcohol content of wine is a strategic part of its taste.
Can anyone say whether they think these drinks are any good to the taste? Someone must be buying the things..!

I have to be honest and say when in was pregnant I preferred a glass of posh fizzy juice to alcohol free wine.... having said that you may be right about the technology as thatbwas 11 years ago.
Each year I do 'sober October' and if I really really fancy a drink I reach for no alcohol cider - it tastes authentic to me. Never revisited low or no alcohol wine though.Emma

Not tried, but just today on radio 4's You & Yours there was a bit about them. Try iplayer or their BBC web site?
Seems they have cracked the alcohol bit, not no alcohol, lower alcohol, has to be over 8%from memoryWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -
Not strictly wine, but we like the kopperberg fruit ciders and the other day I accidentally bought the alcohol free one and it tasted exactly the same.0

I bought a couple of bottles recently from Asda. They were labelled as something like "Fre" I haven't got the bottle any more but I'm sure if you look in the aisle you should find them.
I had the white wine which was okay. I have to say these were the first low alcohol of any sort I had ever bought so have no experience of any others.0 -
The alcohol free ciders are really refreshing
Not yet found an alcohol free wine that either doesn't taste of fizzy grape juice or flat cider
If it were a question of just cutting the alcohol , I'd make sprinters with either soda or lemonade0 -
I've never found a good alcohol free wine. They're all way too sweet. There are a few more interesting beers out there now though - Brewdog's Nanny State and Erdinger alcohol free are both good. I also like tonic water either with a slice of lime or some grapefruit or cranberry juice for a less sweet drink.0

Try elderflower and sparkling water in a wine glass (sparkling white wine
) or, my fave at the moment is M&S sugar free cranberry lemonade. (Sparkling rose
) only 70p per bottle so much cheaper than wine!
If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!0 -
Thanks to all. Looks like not many have tried them and that I'll have to give it a go myself.0

Aldi have just started flogging a low ( ish ) alcohol wine. Think it's about 5%..It's not expensive either
The white is ok, the red is vile but the rose is blooming delish!0 -
For Xmas I treated myself to a bottle of Schloer. It was a light pink (rose style) one ....
I didn't expect much, to be honest; had Schloer in the past, it was nice enough, but not something I'd head for. I just wanted "something that looked a bit fizzy on Xmas Day with my dinner, for a change"
And I LOVED it.0
