Is it worth paying an extra £200 for this protection, or could I do it myself successfully? And also does it really work?

I'am also wondering the same ... sofa from DFS?"Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0

I am not sure just how much use it is BUT I have just had a new sofa and the cost to have a fabric protection added to this, by the manufacturer, was £40. £200 seems rather expensiveThank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0

Hi xqbgal,
I can't find anything on Old Style Scotchguard alternatives, but this older thread may help:
Scotchguard Protection on Sofa?

Thanks to everyone for your replies. We have been quoted £200 from SCS for a 3 seater sofa 2 armchairs and a footstool which I think is expensive, so I think I will give it a miss as theres only 2 of us so hopefully not much spillage unless we overdo the homemade wine!!
Thanks again.:beer:0 -

£200 for 3 seater and 2 seater and footstool is not bad as the protection lasts for 5 years. SCS works about at £40 per seat (ie: 1 chair = £40, 2 seater sofa = £80)
Been looking today and sale prices are ridiculous. 10% off a 1 grand corner unit is bollox!0 -
You can buy scotchguard and do it yourself
But IMO £200 is an awful lot of money. If the sofa has removable cushions and covers you would need to scotchguard again after washing anyway and the £200 would literally be going down the drain

DO NOT DO IT - ITS A RIP OFF IN MY OPINION
I paid over £300 to have my suite done - DFS ! and it was a complete waste of money, it was a cream fabric suite and within 6 months it looked 10 years old, even tho to start with I religeously wiped it down as instructed. The sales people get commission on this and will try their best to sell it to you. Of course it took me all of 5 years to pay for my suite (over £2500 in total) so I am only now hoping to be able to replace it. When I do it will be leather and I will not buy any of the add ons to protect the leather - I will use a product we already have for feeding our bike leathers.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
I wish I had known about this site before.Last week, I purchased a sofa from DFS and along came the 5 Year Anti Stain Cover £79,while with the salesman he somehow made me believe it was for any type of damage that would happen to the sofa.He didnt advise me to read the Terms and Conditions that was on the back of the contract. And its only when I got home that I read the whole thing and realised it wasnt covering anything I thought it was.I now called them today but the Manager said it couldnt be amended.I am feeling cheated and I'm a student on a lower budget.
Please someone advise me on what to do,to get my money back.I still want the sofa but not that Anti stain cover0 -
My friend who is an upholsterer said its a complete and utter waist of money. I was going to get a suite and he said DON'T buy that Scotchgard rubbish. He got a tin from his work and 10 minutes thats it done. ONE can yet i was going to be charged £99.00.'HAIL HAIL' :dance:0
