Please help! I stained my cream leather boots with dark polish

I started polishing my beautiful cream leather boots with an old brush which must have been used in the past with brown polish and some of the residue was still on it. It's left a pinky tinge to the leather. I tried to brush it out and then used a damp cloth with a bit of washing up liquid but it's till there. I'm heartbroken I love these boots and can't afford new ones. Any ideas :o

Have you tried a weak bleach solution?

maybe test on an unnoticeable bit of the boot first...

I think the combination of bleach and water in any strength would be unsuitable for leather.

I'd try something designed to clean furniture on a tiny patch - I've also heard of baby wipes being used to clean leather.

Have a go with a new/clean brush and some cream coloured polish, it might help to lighten the pinky shade.

If you bought these boots on a credit card, I think you can get compensation. Remember the old Barclaycard adverts when the wedding presents got broken? HTH
  • Panic over (I think!). Now the leather has dried out the pinkness has almost all gone thanks to the damp cloth and washing up liquid. I also asked in my local cobblers and they suggested lightly dabbing with white spirit. Didn't try this but for might be useful for future reference...
