Dyson V8 Absolute/Animal

I finally have to accept that I can no longer haul my cylinder vacuum cleaner around the house and, having bought a cheap cordless vacuum, see that the concept is good although its capacity is somewhat lacking, I am looking to spend a bit more on a decent one. The Dyson V8 seems to get good reviews but I don't know anyone who has had real experience of using one. Just wondered if anyone has any thought on these, please.

It will have to last for a long time, i.e. in terms of build, have a reasonable charge/use time and, above all, make me want to tackle the hard and other floors I have both upstairs and downstairs.

I have had mine since January and it has made cleaning a bit easier (I have 2 furballs). It is great for furniture, stairs and a quick whizz around.
However, I prefer to get my Vax out for my open plan living room/ dining room. I don't have hallway so you have to walk through the living room to get to the kitchen so it is very heavily used. I find the Vax lifts the pile in the carpet making it look good again. The Dyson does remove the dirt but theleaves main walking route look a bit sad. In other rooms such as my bedroom this isn't an issue.

    We have a Dyson v-something--or-other, possibly v6?
    It's the small cordless walkaround.

    It's okay, but not brilliant.
But it does clean and suck up dirt.

I've not had much experience with others.
Is it worth the price? Not really.

Apparently, although they're expensive, the G-Tech vacuum is really good. But the larger one of the two. The smaller one isn't as good.
  • I have just bought a Shark, I bought the NV680UKCO.

One big advantage is that it is a "lift off" which can convert from an upright to a cylinder, and it is also nice and light.

I bought it to replace an old Dyson DC04 which was still going but not sucking as it could. First time I tried the Shark I had it on the highest suction and could not move it on my carpet, so simply turned the suction down a bit which is very easy to do.

The one disadvantage I can think of is that it has a very small bin, but it is easy to empty.
