my son took out a lease car with Fords. he has had 2 cars with them and simply renewed the lease and changed the car each time. he signed for another car 12 months ago and the agreement was for 2 years however, he is self employed and missed some monthly payments but then paid extra each month to make it up. he recently missed another couple of payments and did receive default notices from Fords but buried his head in the sand. he has now had correspondence from Link Financial who say he must make weekly payments of £184 for the next 12 months which is totally unreasonable and unaffordable. they say the outstanding debt on the car is almost £9,000 alternatively they can take the car back and sell it at auction but if it sells for less which it will as going on comparison sites it is only worth £4/4,500, then he will have to pay them the shortfall. surely they cannot do this as he had never agreed to purchase the car but was only leasing. advice please

Hi,
Everything they can do will be printed in the lease agreement, do you have a copy ?
If not, ask for one.
Unfortunately these are the consequences of non payment of a lease agreement, sounds pretty much standard recovery action to me.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
