Custard in Bulk?

OK, further down the page we have a thread on making crumble topping in bulk, so how about custard? I usually have to make about 1.5L to feed us anyway, but OH brought me a massive catering size bag of Bird's Custard Powder (3KG I think). On the side of the pack are directions for making up catering quantities. If I had a pan big enough could I make a huge quantity and freeze it in smaller quantities? I'd make custard more often but by the time I've done the main course, I can't be bothered:o or don't have time.

(Alternatively, I could get my coat and head off for the Bad Mothers Club:rotfl:.)
I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

    Hi there

I don't see why you can't freeze it..you can buy those frozen puds with custard on.....

I would make it quite thick and then when its defrosted beat in some more milk and re-heat

I reckon it would freeze fine ;) I freeze white sauces often and they're just milk and flour. Sounds like an excellent idea to me Bizzimum, it's also a good way of using a glut of milk up.

i need to loose some weight but bulks a little harsh ;)
  • Why don't you just make up a normal amount first and freeze a little bit and see how it goes? Less waste if it doesn't quite work. I have started doing mine in the microwave though as it is a lot less faffy
