We are looking at houses which have a small holiday let attached. So one has a barn in the garden, 2 have a self contained studio attached to the house. One of the houses pays 2 sets of council tax. All of them have their own kitchen.

I have read such conflicting views on whether it's possible to get a mortgage on this type of house.

We would have to port our mortgage (Santander) as we are on a fixed rate and have a 6k early repayment fee.

Is this workable? Thanks. Title should say porting!

You would need to speak to Santander and/or their surveyors. Some surveyors will allow you to send the rightmove link and they will say yes or not before wasting any time/money.

Most lendes would say no I suspect, but there appears to be nothing on the santander site to say otherwise.

You may be able to port your mortgage to the main house, but have to pay cash or get a buy to let mortgage on the annexe accommodation.

If part of the house you are buying is a separate dwelling be aware of stamp duty and capital gains tax implications too.
