Hi, I'm not sure where to start with this.
I have bipolar, diagnosed two years ago. In this latest manic episode that I'm currently off work sick with I have become a gambling addict and have resorted to taking payday loans out in my partners name to fund the habit. I'm deeply ashamed and have told him everything as I can no longer keep up with the £900 a month. He's understandably upset and angry and says I need to sort it.
I'm writing here as I want to make things right but I have no idea what I can do. If it's involves the police then so be it, I deserve it but it may mean I lose my job.
Please go easy on me my mental health is quite fragile at the moment. I know I've done wrong I just need advice on how to move forward from this.
I've started Gamblers Anonymous and counselling so I'm doing everything within my power to stop the gambling.

Pay off the debts, and don't take out any more (not even in your own name). How much is owed on the existing loans?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Realistically there are only two ways forward: either your partner involves the police, reporting it as a fraud case, where the outcome might be that you are assessed as not being capable of managing your own affairs (i.e. "not having mental capacity") - which is likely to mean losing your job, depending on what you do.
Or you deal with it between the two of you, paying it off and making sure you cannot do it again (which may mean that he has to change banks/credit cards and withhold his financial details from you).
I doubt many people would ~choose~ to take the former, so that probably just leaves the latter.0 -
Best wishes in getting this sorted, sounds like you have a plan and good luck with the GA meetings!0

To prevent it happening again, to stop the urge to gamble why not give your partner control of your account and he gives you x amount for spending eg buying a lunch at work.0
