Hi
Just received a CIFAS entry in my credit report.
Category: First Party Fraud
Name: My wife's
Address: Our address
Can someone tell me what that is, I've searched here, but cannot seem to find out if it is good or bad.
It's category 6 on the CIFAS website.
Does it impact on my credit history, the credit report is in my name only?
What has happened?
thanks

I found this
First Party Fraud includes frauds such as falsely reporting a card or cheque book stolen and claiming fraudsters used it, direct debit frauds, uncleared effects frauds, fake Internet auctions, false claims of robbery and suchlike.
Does that ring any bells? If you think it's a mistake challenge it with the credit reference agency.:A

yes, I saw that too.
No, it doesn't ring any bells
My wife has not lost anything or anything like that at all
Is this quite a bad entry on the credit report?0 -
We had this when we went over our OD limit, ie spending funds that weren;t ours. I can see their point but think its a bit much.
Could you have done the same or spent over a credit limit on a credit card?

I would certainly challenge that. It won't be helping you being there that's for sure. If it's something stupid like going over an overdraft limit my credit file should be full of them. Sounds to me like there has been some sort of a mistake.:A

I agree with Toto - it certainly won't do any harm. If you know who put it on then contact them. we also contacted Equifax who told us what it was for.
Ours was put on by the Halifax and when I contacted them they just stated we had knowlingly gone over our OD by writing cheques, therefore spending money that wasn't ours or agreed. This, according to them was fraud.
Well, yes we did knowlingly go over our OD but they let usNot making excuses of course but we were in a position where there was no other option.

First-party fraud occurs when an individual applies for credit using his or her actual identity, but with no intention of paying. This includes early payment defaults, when little or no payments are made after getting a loan or other type of credit, and bust-outs, the sudden and complete use of credit limits on an account or accounts with no intent to pay. I suggest you get a solicitors letter sent to them to sort it out0

I also had a CIFAS warning put onto mine and my partners credit report when we applied for a mortgage with the C and G.
We did not understand why and contacted Experian. It turned out that it was wrongly put onto our report as somebody in the call centre misheard what we had said and therefore thought we were fraudulently trying to obtain a mortgage.
We had to deal with the fraud department of C and G and it all had to be doen via e mail and post as they do not talk to you on the telephone. We have had it removed and all the credit searches that they completed on us.
If you do believe it was wrongly added to your account then you need to keep on at them (it took us 2 months!!)

Thanks for all your replies.
Not went over overdraft, in fact not even in it.
Have contacted Equifax as this is the report it is on, will have to wait and see for answer.
Virtually everything is in my name anyway.
Just checked wife's next and la redoute, both are cleared at zero as expected - maybe not when the next statement comes in .
Looks like a mistake, or someone else trying to do something in her name.
thanks
