Debt Collection Fees/Charges for dropped debt.

Hello,
Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

I don't want to get into a long winded description here so i'll try and be quick.

Around 10 months ago i received a letter from the land registry notifying me that a charging order had been placed on my house, this came out of the blue.

Without going into too much personal detail, this was due to moving house and letters being sent from legal aid to my old address. I was told it was not possible to get copies of these letters. Fast forward many months later (After several 1+ month gaps without a reply) I eventually get a straight answer and proved that i didn't owe any cash. The debt was then dropped and the case closed.

To my shock, i was then told that because i didn't pay or setup a payment plan for this money I never owed, that i was liable to pay Rossendales (The debt collectors) charges & fees.

Now i can't work my mind around the idea that I have to pay charges for a debt collector who attempted to collect a debt i never owed. But I can't for the life of me find anything online about this.

I'm simply not willing to pay fees/charges for some made up debt, the fault was very much on their side and not mine. Is there anything i can do? or some advise i can read on this matter?

Ask them for the contract you have with them.
They can only be commerce via a contract.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

Were Rossendales acting as debt collectors or bayliffs at the time ?

i'm not 100% i believe it was debt collectors, would there be a clear way of knowing based on their actions/lack of actions?

They will be acting as what is known.
    Third party interlopers.
You have no contract with them directly, there is very little they can do other than huff and puff and threaten to blow your house down.
There is no CCA agreement, no service contract, no court order, they are interloping.

As you mentioned charging order, only a court can apply this measure.

So the case must of gone to the courts first, so was judgement awarded against you ?

If so, they were acting as bayliffs, and you would of received a letter informing you of certain enforcement fees they were able to charge.

If not, they would just be acting as debt collectors, and mark the shark is correct.

But I suspect the former may be true.

I may well have gone to court, the first i knew about it was the order on my house saying i was unable to sell. They never spoke about physically coming to my property and the enforcement they threatened was going to court again to dock my wages.

Surely a bailiff would be required to produce said letter again when i told them i had received nothing. As they told me it was "impossible" because the letters were automated and they couldn't reprint them.

I just received the letter from rossendales asking for £362.50 because they made a mistake a chased a debt i didn't owe. and i didn't pay the debt i knew i didn't owe. How can this be allowed?

I would send a written complaint to the bailiffs head office, and also to the creditor who instructed the bailiffs in the first place.

You haven't said what this "alleged" debt is in relation too, so i cant be any more specific than that really.
