What is included and not included when they assess if your income is less than £100k?

On the childcare choice website one of the questions is asking:
" is your income before tax less than £100k?"
Pensions are tax deductible, can the NHS pension contributions be taken off. I.e. Gross income minus pension contributions = the income figure to submit ?
