Top 10 most overcrowded train journeys revealed

How would you enforce that on a 10-coach train with 20 doorways?
You can't.
Not unless you put a member of staff on every door, which is what happened on a few rare occasions during Reading rock/Glastonbury events from London after it became obvious that reservations that had been placed were being removed wholesale the moment those without reservations boarded.
The trains were then 'reservation only' for the first 20 minutes of boarding and then a free for all after that (about 10 mins before departure).
Again, although the guard as the authority to turf others out of reserved seats it is basically unenforceable since you can't call the police every time someone refuses to move.0 -
OK good point, however my main point still stands, that trains should NEVER run over capacity.
Also on your point. I fundimentaly disagree with the nonsence pre-purchasing to get a good price !!!!!!!!. Trains should be ticket on the day only and at a reasonable price.
The current method just allows the trains to provide a !!!! service because they have already been paid.
Ticket on the day only  so when I'm going hundreds of miles across the country I have to hope the train I want to catch isn't already full rather than being able to book it in advance? And I can't reserve a seat that suits me (with a plug, near the luggage rack, quiet zone usually)? Please try and think about the common use cases of trains...
I think commuter trains are usually the worst for overcrowding - going by the times on that list. Why don't more employers have flexible days? How many jobs actually need everyone in from 9am-5pm and how many could cope with just having everyone in between, for example, 10am and 3pm, and let folks make up their other hours as suits them? It'd certainly spread the load on the trains out!0
