Making the most of smaller freezer space with a baby on the way

Options
Hi everyone, I'm new to posting but have been lurking on and off for a few years, being very impressed by a lot of your thriftiness!

I'm currently 6 months pregnant, and looking forward to how to make life as easy as possible when the baby comes, but also being more thrifty/clever with food in general. I really dislike waste and would also like to cut down on this as much as possible.

My situation is- I have a freestanding fridge/freezer of which the fridge and freezer are half each. I have absolutely no room for any other form of either, very sadly. Alongside the pregnancy, I have some health issues, including chronic pain, that mean I can't drive, so I'm restricted to weekly shops my husband can do, or online deliveries. We do have a very nice market in my village but it's not very cheap.

Due to the pain issues I'd like to make life as easy as possible once the baby comes and am planning on running my freezer right down in the next few weeks, to then batch cook meal options for my husband and I to cook either from frozen or when defrosted after the birth.

I'm aware I haven't got a tonne of freezer space, and I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions or tips for making the most of the space this way? I thought about also baking some cake-type ideas to freeze in slices for when guests pop in to see the baby?

ANY ideas, MSE or slightly otherwise, super duper appreciated!

Freezing flat in bags is very good for space economy. You can then stand the flat packs up like books. I sometimes do this with mince if we buy large packs.
Also vacuum sealing is very space saving and can be combined with the flat bag freezing idea.
