Time out competition to see Hunger Monday October 20 2008 at Renoir. EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE SCREENINGS
timeout.com/openingnights
HungerSet in Belfast’s Maze Prison, ‘Hunger’ presents the life of Republican prisoner Bobby Sands (Michael Fassbender) as he protests against the UK government’s refusal to grant terrorist prisoners political status. The film follows life before and during Sands’s 1981 hunger strike without adopting a political stance, instead focusing on how the prisoners resorted to using their own bodies as tools to get their voices heard, and documenting Sands’s rapid physical deterioration. Debuting as a director, artist Steve McQueen brings a compelling and sensual tone to the film, sensitively capturing the relationship between the prisoners and their guards.
In addition to our Opening Nights screening, we've also got nine pairs of tickets for the London Film Festival premiere of 'Hunger' at Odeon Leicester Square on Sunday October 19. Simply enter your details as normal for our screening and the premiere tickets will be distributed alongside the screening allocation.0 -
The London Film Festival have offered us tickets to a special preview followed by a Q&A this Saturday Afternoon. Tickets are free of charge, but please RSVP direct to address below for tickets.UK Premiere: Sunshine Barry & the Disco Worms
Sat 18 Oct 13:30, ODEON WEST END 1, Leicester Square
Increasingly fed up with the low status that worms seem to have achieved in the world pecking order, Barry decides that there is more to life than his boring day to day existence working at a compost plant. Life seems so dull. But one listen to his favourite disco record and his whole world changes, and he transforms from ordinary Barry to Sunshine Barry, the next big thing on the music scene. Now all he needs is a band, his Disco Worms (and if they're going to start playing instruments, then hands might be useful too).
This colourful new animation from Denmark is set to give worms the level of cool that they have always aspired to - if you didn't know that worms had rhythm then prepare yourself for a big surprise...
We are pleased to announce that director Thomas Borch Nielson and members of the Sunshine Barry team will take part in a Q&A with Justin Johnson following this screening.
Please RSVP by Friday 17 October to rsvp.bfisouthbank@bfi.org.uk

Hello there!
We have just been informed about two new screenings and debates next week at the Everyman Cinema Club in Hampstead, London.
THE FABULOUS PICTURE SHOW - HUNGER
On Monday 20th October, we shall be joined by four members of the cast: Liam Cunningham, Liam McMahon, Stuart Graham and Brian Milligan for a special screening of Hunger.
Hunger follows life in the Maze Prison, Northern Ireland with an interpretation of the highly emotive events surrounding the 1981 IRA Hunger Strike, led by Bobby Sands. With an epic eye for detail, the film provides a timely exploration of what happens when body and mind are pushed to the uttermost limit.
After the screening, audience members will have the chance to discuss the film with its stars, in a Q&A hosted by journalist Amanda Palmer.
THE FABULOUS PICTURE SHOW - RAMCHAND PAKISTAN
On Wednesday 22nd October, we shall be joined by director Mehreen Jabbar for a special screening of Ramchand Pakistan.
Ramchand Pakistan is based on a true story about the accidental crossing of the Pakistan-Indian border during a period of extreme, war-like tension between the two countries by two members of a Pakistani Hindu family belonging to the 'untouchable' (Dalit) caste, and the extraordinary consequences of this unintended action upon the lives of a woman, a man, and their son.
After the screening, audience members will have the chance to discuss the film with its director, Mehreen Jabbar, in a Q&A hosted by journalist Amanda Palmer.
The studio doors open at noon.

"W." starring Josh Brolin, James Cromwell, Ellen Burstyn, Elizabeth Banks, Thandie Newton and Richard Dreyfuss, is three times Oscar-winner Oliver Stone's third cinematic examination of an American President, following his previous works of 'JFK' and 'Nixon'.
"W." is the story of George W. Bush; a man who struggled all his life with his personal demons, wrestling with them in his father's long shadow. A Yale graduate, a transplanted son of Texas, a onetime drunk, a recent convert; how did this improbable person transform himself from reprobate and well-known black sheep of his esteemed family into Leader of the Free World? "W." follows his journey from Yale frat house to Texas oilfield to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. and, in the process, reveals the man who would become the 42nd President of the United States - his struggles, his achievements and the consequences of both.
"W." will be released Nationwide by Lionsgate on Friday 7th November, 2008.
Go to www.seefilmfirst.com and enter 229899 The screening is on 26th October (next Sunday) at 11am. Available nationwide.
