In 1944 and ’45, cameramen documented the horrors discovered following the liberation of the concentration camps.
So powerful and damning was the footage that propagandists quickly determined that it should be made into a documentary to screen after the war, which would condemn the Nazi regime and shame the German people into acceptance of the Allied occupation.
At the Ministry of Information in London, Sidney Bernstein assembled an expert team that included Alfred Hitchcock, who worked as treatment adviser.
By September 1945, British priorities for Germany had evolved from de-Nazification to reconstruction and so the film was shelved, unfinished.
Following the original filmmakers’ directions and drawing on seventeen hours of rushes, the Imperial War Museum has now restored and completed this film. There are 10 types of people in the world. ‹(•¿•)›(11)A104.28S94.98O112.46N86.73D101.02(12)J130.63F126.76M134.38A200.98M156.30J95.56J102.85A175.93

A seductive, Hitchcockian noir thriller from the Award- winning Director of 'Barbara'.
Her face badly injured, Auschwitz survivor Nelly returns home to Berlin in 1945. Having barely recovered from surgery, Nelly sets out to find her husband, Johnny – the love of her life who, by refusing to abandon their marriage, protected her from Nazi persecution for so long.
But Johnny is convinced that his wife is dead. When Nelly finally tracks him down, he recognizes nothing but an unnerving resemblance and doesn’t believe it could really be her. Hoping to secure her family’s inheritance, Johnny suggests to Nelly that she take on the identity of his late wife. Nelly agrees: She becomes her own imposter. She wants to know whether Johnny loved her – but was it him who in fact, betrayed her?
