VE Day, 1945. Across Europe, people are celebrating the end of the war. London overflows with celebration and excess. Two teenage princesses are allowed out that night to join the party. For the first time they are able to mingle with the teeming crowds, incognito.
Our two teenagers are Margaret (Bel Powley) and the future Queen of England, Elizabeth (Sarah Gadon). Home is Buckingham Palace.

Inspired by true events, A Royal Night Out is a heart-warming and riotous tale of the Queen witnessing the energy and spirit on this unique night.

In 1944 and ’45, cameramen documented the horrors discovered following the liberation of the concentration camps.

So powerful and damning was the footage that propagandists quickly determined that it should be made into a documentary to screen after the war, which would condemn the Nazi regime and shame the German people into acceptance of the Allied occupation.

At the Ministry of Information in London, Sidney Bernstein assembled an expert team that included Alfred Hitchcock, who worked as treatment adviser.

By September 1945, British priorities for Germany had evolved from de-Nazification to reconstruction and so the film was shelved, unfinished.

Following the original filmmakers’ directions and drawing on seventeen hours of rushes, the Imperial War Museum has now restored and completed this film.

Inspired by a true story, Al Pacino stars as Danny Collins, an ageing rock star who can’t give up his hard-living ways. But when his manager (Christopher Plummer) uncovers a 40-year-old undelivered letter written to him by John Lennon, Danny decides to change course and embarks on a heartfelt journey to rediscover his family and himself.

Featuring songs by John Lennon, Danny Collins draws a career-best performance from Al Pacino with support from a talented cast including Annette Bening, Jennifer Garner, Bobby Cannavale and Christopher Plummer.
