Advanced learner loan

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this.

I have changed career, and am seeking to undertake further study to facilitate that. I have achieved a Certificate in Assessing to become an NVQ assessor, and wish to study further - possibly a BA or an MsC or similar.

I have a BA (unrelated to current career) and student loan (type 1).

I am trying to establish if I'm eligible for an advanced learner loan - some people say I am, some websites seem to indicate I am, yet others say that as i have a degree already I'm not.

Does anyone know the situation or who it is best to talk to?

Thanks

I think that a Level 3 is the highest level qualification for Assessment. See Open University details here

Thanks - maybe should have been a little clearer - what I'm thinking of doing is possibly a qualification linked to the industry I'm focusing on (event safety, stewarding etc) so it's not another assessor qualification as such, more to expand knowledge and potential.
  • Wouldn't the best way be to work in that industry or am I missing something?

According to the government's website https://www.gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan you should be eligible.

I am aware, you cannot apply for a standard Student Loan if you hold an equivalent qualification you are trying to get the loan for however Advanced Learner Loans are slightly different to the usual student loans. I would go with the advice given on the government's website:
Ask your college or training provider if you don’t know if your course is eligible.
University/college admissions departments are usually very savy when it comes to student finance.
Anything I say in no way constitutes financial advice and anything you do is your own decision.

Thanks folks - I do already work in the industry but wish to expand my knowledge/potential.

I'll decide on a course and contact providers and see if anything is applicable.

    Cheers.
