Employment - how to do it RIGHT!

The author of this piece is a personal friend, and coincidentally has worked with MSE on their Money and Mental Health Policy Unit. Most recently he was at a roundtable for their report on debt and mental health in the workplace.
Anyway, I had forgotten all the above. I just read the article and thought 'if only!!!!!'. And thought I'd share it on here, in the hope that one or two employers might see it, and that it might give people struggling to 'fit in' in the workplace a new perspective.

You know employers, you see you're profitable, keeping people employed...well rip that rule book up and start again because it isn't right!
A very preachy piece with no actual consideration towards employersDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
I think this article must have been written for the 2016 Speed Question-Begging Blitz Championship.
Abilities such as?Because we can offer so many different angles and abilities a neurotypical workforce cannot
In which ways?because diversity at all levels of an organization is good for the organization
Writing comprehensible and coherent English sentences clearly isn't one of those abilities, even if you are the "2016 Creative Thinking World Champion".and because the difficulties we have encountered that mean we struggle with some things and may not have the right pieces of paper in no way diminish genuine brilliance in other areas yet right now your tickboxing approach brings us down to the level at which our struggles have been fought out.
The kind of me-me-me-me-me approach to the world that gives millennials a bad name, where everyone else is obliged to work around your wants and emotions, and you're not obliged to make the smallest effort to meet theirs. I don't want to wear a uniform or smart clothing, so companies must rip up their dress code. Clients want to see professionals making an effort to look smart - too bad, it's all about me.
This is an extremely selfish approach to life in itself, and becomes outright idiotic when you apply it in a situation, namely employment, where someone else has the upper hand.0 -
It doesn't seem awfully constructive... From the title, I was kind of hoping for some actual things that could be done, rather than a list of things not to do with no suggestions how to achieve the same goal better.0

I'm afraid that I have to agree - there's no substance to this and I see no particular expertise on the subject. I could come up with a list of a dozen friends of mine who have proven skills and experience in this area of work who would (and are) of greater user to an employer. The author seems adept at saying stuff that nobody could wholly disagree with, but popularity isn't the test of effectiveness. The author appears to have little tall a awareness of the world of work, what it exists to do or how it functions in a capitalist society. Maybe it's nice to dream about a world with different values where everyone has a lovely fulfilling role that is designed to make the absolute best of them and their abilities. But it isn't going to happen. Even the absolute best of employers would be bankrupt in a week with this approach.0

"Employment- how to do it the way I want it done" is a more accurate descriptionIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

I do hope this chap's got his own problems under control, but I fear his grasp on reality - especially the realities of running a business in a capitalist economy - is still a little tenuous.0
