    Tell him you're committed, and look for a new job.

    I wouldn't normally advocate messing around your employer like that, but why would you want to stick around at a job you don't enjoy when they treat you so badly?

  • You are committed, you go in and do a good job and all that jazz. When you decide it's time to go, you will follow normal procedures, as to giving notice. This doesn't reflect badly on you, we all get to the day when for all sorts of reasons we decide to move on. Good luck, they haven't behaved well themselves.

    I agree with PPs that it is a weird question to ask and that you should have no hesitation in saying you are committed regardless of your actual plans. However, as he has raised the question with you, I think it would also be perfectly reasonable for you to say something about the broken promises - maybe along the lines of "Yes, I'm committed to the company, but I have been very disappointed that the agreements made were not honoured. In particular, I was promised a pay rise to £xx and an internal transfer to [other role]. Those promises were not honoured and I haven't ever been given any explanation of why. I would like to see the company keep to the agreement it made with me and if the position originally offered to me isn't available. I would ask that you keep that in mind so that I can move to a similar role within the company as soon as one becomes available"

    But in your position, I would definitely be job hunting and if you find a new job, leave and don't look back. They've already proven they won't keep to any agreement made to keep you, so don't fall for that a second time.
