FTB wanting to change mortgage advisors

We're first time buyers that are nervous and have a few unique factors that stop us from feeling confident choosing a mortgage alone, so we decided to go through mortgage advisor.
We haven't yet found a house, we just wanted to start off knowing how much we could borrow and feeling like there was someone there throughout the process that we could turn to.

Anyway, I emailed an advisor a friend had used. They called me the same day, sent a fact finder over email which I responded to.

We have sent a total of 8 emails and received 5 emails in return - the last being 11 days ago. I hadn't gotten a response so I sent another today to discover they have gone on holiday for 3 weeks without telling us (according to auto-response)!

Basically, I want to find someone else that actually suits our needs and makes us feel confident - this guy has answered only some questions and evaded my questions about meeting which makes me feel uncomfortable, even though my friend has met them and gotten their mortgage through them.

Their charges were £199 plus commission - if I leave them now, do you think I'll have to pay anything? The answers to the questions seem to be just stuff that someone with knowledge could get from the top of their head (i.e. mortgage lenders work it out as you income x 4.5, mortgage in principle applications last 3 months etc.) - right now it doesn't seem like they've put any actual time into dealing with out situation and if they have, they certainly haven't shared much of that with us.

You are receiving rubbish service and could, and probably should swop advisers now.

As to the £199, if you have not paid it, I don't see why you should.
