OS food processor help needed, oh wise ones.

Options
Which is the false economy here?

I have been thinking about getting a food processor for a while, and have been eyeing up a magimix 3200xl. (Yes it's definitely a case of want as well as need.) I have been donated a still working Moulinex maxima which is at least 35 years old and which I have test driven for the first time today.
Normally I'd stick with it till it died. But they're selling off the red magimix for £175 which is a good £50 cheaper than the usual price.

So cast your votes now - splash out on the deal or stick with the ageing machine and hope it keeps going, (or pray there's another sale on when it dies.)
Or any cheaper alternative brands that you can recommend, of a similar size. But I really want the magimix!
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Ooh! elsien, I had a Magimix for ages and loved it. I had a minor thing go wrong with it once and found that their repair service was wonderful.
Unfortunately I gave it to a daughter-in-law to use when she was giving a party and she loved it so much that she was reluctant to hand it back.
I am now looking for a replacement so I'll fight you for the £175 red one.

There are always offers on Magimix if you shop about and aren't necessarily looking for a specific colour. I gave my sister my old Moulinex over 10 years ago as I bought a new one and she didn't have one, it was around 18 years old at that point. The Moulinex is still going strong and I'm now on a replacement for my replacement (not a Magimix I must add)

Ooh, I shall be watching this thread with interest as I need food processor recommendations too. When I was in hospital for a couple of months earlier this year and Mr C J had to fend for himself, he accidentally snapped off the little plastic lug which clicks the bowl into the processor and although I can still make it work by standing there holding the bowl in place, it really needs replacing.

It is only a Sainsbury's own brand one so in commendable OS style I phoned them only to learn they don't sell replacement bowls so I really do need a new one. I've been looking at the Kitchenaid ones as they are pretty (and they do one with a large bowl capacity, which is a requirement) but I am hesitant to spend a lot on something without real recommendations so I am keen to know what you all use ..........

Not a processor but a mixer with blender, but I have a very old Kenwood Chef A701A from the 1960s which I bought 2nd hand around ten years ago. It looks brilliant, does a great job and you can still get spares from places like e-spares. If you make bread the dough hook is great. Obviously there is a risk with buying 2nd hand by my word these were built to last:D

They had a Kenwood chef mixer for £8 at the Nettlebed (Sue Ryder charity) sale this morning, and I did pause to consider it (I actually have a very good mixer already so wasn't sure I needed anything else) but whilst I was hesitating a woman pushed me aside and swooped on it for herself!

If you want it, and you can afford it, just get it. You won't regret it, and you only come this way once.
No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...
  • I picked up my magimix quite cheaply by not buying an in vogue colour. However it's still a thing of simplistic beauty and I really couldn't be without it

I use it near enough daily. The Kenwood only gets pulled out for making bread now
