Nowhere on this parks leaflets or website does it refer to "footpath", just path.
It also mentions that it all are welcome to use the paths, including dog walkers, buggies, mobility scooters and cyclists.
Erm, it was you that called it a "footpath".
Anyway doesn't matter if it is a shared cyclepath/footpath, pedestrians have priority.0 -

They have priority but that does not mean they can hog the entire width of a wide path by walking four abreast - it looks like they were just trying to make a point as there are a lot of "cyclist haters" about - just read almost any cycling related thread and you will soon see this.0 -

Perhaps "cycle haters" exist because of the poor behaviour by many cyclists.
The OP says the came to a halt when reaching the pedestrians (who had priority), unlike the majority of cyclists who speed along these paths expecting the pedestrian to get out of the way.0 -

Any considerate person would move and let everyone carry on.

I do a lot of cycling on shared use paths and find the vast majority of pedestrians polite and courteous however there will always be the miserable, boring people who have a chip on their shoulder and insist on trying to make a point. It gives them a purpose in life.0

I agree. Perhaps cycle shops ought to stop selling them bikes.0 -

No -- cycle haters exist because they're just miserable spiteful people. People who hate cyclists tend to be obnoxious people who hate a million other things.
If only there was a way to get pedestrians to improve their poor behaviour... I think they should have number plates and pay taxes just like motorists.0 -
The main road into my small town has a footpath (which is not 'shared') and two of us were walking home along it a few years ago and saw a cyclist approaching on it. He was beetling along on a mission, not just cycling slowly.
We agreed we wondered what he was going to do when he reached us. Well, the answer was clearly Nothing - he didn't slow down and apparently expected us to leap out of his path.
I turned sideways on just before the impact (to avoid the wheel between the legs!) and presented him with my right shoulder. He bounced off onto the road, surprisingly remaining on his bike, and all parties left with four-letter greetings flying in the air. He appeared to remain on the (wide and empty) road after that.
Very satisfying!0 -
Is there grass on either side of the path? You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.
