Hi folks
Im coming over to Crewekerne for a few says in August and would like to take a trip down to London and probably stay overnight. Can anyone advise where I should look for best train deals for myself, wife and 13 year old?
Thank you

There will be severe disruption to train services into Waterloo during most of August.

That's my luck! Is there an alternative to Waterloo?0
-
The alternatives are likely to be slower. It looks like a few trains cancelled and the journey taking around 10 minutes more than usual. You might want to avoid arriving at Waterloo around 8.15-9a.m. or leaving from there between 5 and 6.30.
You could change at Clapham Junction if you were going to West London but it is likely to be very busy during August.0 -
Thanks Giraffe69. Do you reckon if I avoid those times(which I was planning on doing) I'll be ok?0

Should have added that I will have access to a car. Don't want to drive to London but should I drive to another departure train station?0

It's about twenty miles to Taunton and over thirty to Castle Cary.0 -
I don't think it is worth the extra miles unless something goes wrong (as it may do) with the Waterloo works. I'm travelling from a station a bit near to London on the same line. My normal train isn't running so I will catch one 30 mins earlier and expect to take around 10 minutes longer then usual but other than that there should be no problem. In the rush hour there may be too many trains and a delay but they are opening (temporarily) the old Waterloo International platforms to try to compensate for the ones taken out of action.
Castle Cary is also more expensive as is all the Paddington line but it is probably the best alternative to avoid Waterloo.0 -
Hi Giraffe - help me decide!! I can get suitable trains from both Crewekerne and Castle Cary. Crewererne is slightly cheaper at £133 for the 3 of us. Don't mind which part of London we come into. Well... slight preference for Paddington. Which would you go for?0
