Cyclist, 91, died doing time trial on Aylesbury road

Options
A 91-year-old cyclist killed on a dual carriageway was doing a time trial to set a new national record for his age.

He had belonged to the Surrey-based Kingston Phoenix Road Club for more than 60 years.

It said Mr Dare had been "attempting to set a new national record for a 91-year-old".

As yet there are no further details but police, of course, are conducting a fatal accident investigation.

Circumstances surrounding the crash are being investigated and Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

I read this earlier today and it's quite sad. Somebody had to go and visit his wife to be there when the police told her.

If it's any form of time trial there'll have been something I'd have thought in the line of witnesses or recordings, or something.

It doesn't help how much video you've got, or witnesses that saw everything, when you're dead.

The bbc reported there was a collision between the cyclist and van. I guess the cyclist did not stand a chance with those odds

Did they say if it was at a junction like a slip road or roundabout or if it was a vehicle simply not seeing a cyclist directly in front of them away from any junction (which is quite a rare type of accident, typically caused by texting at the wheel or being drunk)
