Part time working - bank holidays?

Hi all,
I was wondering if someone could help me calculate my holiday entitlement - I'm not sure HR have got it right, but I want to be certain I know what I'm talking about before I query it!
I work 30 hours a week, Tuesday to Friday. (Full time is 37.5 hours). Normal basic holiday entitlement is '25 days per annum plus 8 bank holidays. This is pro rated for part time employees' (exact wording from our holiday policy). Our holiday year runs 1 Oct to 30 Sept.
So I have two questions:
1) what should my total entitlement be in the 2017/18 holiday year?
2) if someone started a new job this week on the same terms as me, what would their entitlement be for the rest of 2017 (i.e., up to the end of Sept)?
Thanks in advance!

full time is 25+8=33days.
full year working 4 of 5 days is 33*4/5= 26.4 days.
For someone starting Mon 17 July they do 11weeks 26.4*11/52= 5.59days.
there is a bit of rounding and the prorats for part year can be done differnt ways but it will come very close to those numbers.0 -
So, you work 80% of full time hours? In which case you would get 80% of bank holiday hours: 7.5x8 hours x 80% = 48 hours.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0

If you don't work Monday's though, would you not just get the bank holidays that don't fall on a Monday? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Thanks all - I was coming up with the same answers as you but HR are saying something different! They've calculated the remaining leave for someone starting this week at 4 days, and I can't for the life of me see where they're getting that from.
Even ignoring the bank holidays, 0.8x25 is 20 days allowance for the year, so 11/52 x 20 gives 4.2 days for the remainder of this holiday year as an absolute minimum. Time to contact them and see what they say!0 -
I'm with Elsien, have you asked how they manage bank holidays if it is a non-working day for you. You might be lucky and they give you the days, equally though it could be if you don't work it you don't get it.
I work mon-thurs but longer days (8-5), my leave went from 25days to 20 but works out the same (as its 20 longer days). I'm also lucky that there aren't any Friday bank holidays for my site.0 -
The holiday policy implies that BHs are pro-rated, but even if they aren't I'm not convinced they've got their maths right!
And in fact, I'll get two of the BHs anyway as they are not on a Monday (Boxing Day and Good Friday), so that only leaves 6 to quibble over!!0 -

That would not be legal part time workes should get prorata the holidays of a full time worker.
BH have no special status.0 -
My wife has just gone onto reduced hours and normal holidays and bank holidays are all pro-rata. What her employer has done in order to simplify the calculation for my missus, is to adjust the number of hours my wife has as 'usable leave', for want of a better description, to ensure she gets full pay for all Bank Holidays.
Many employers seem to work on holiday hours entitlement for part time staff. That happened where I worked, and is being used where my wife works. It's a straightforward method to calculate if working 7, 7 1/2, or 8 hours a day, but it was a nightmare with a working day of 7hr 24min (Civil Service so no surprise).0 -

No, that is not correct. Someone who works 80% of a full timer gets 80% of a full-timer's leave entitlement, regardless of whether its classed as annual leave, bank holidays or public holidays. If you work in a job that doesn't require bank holiday working, the only difference is someone who works Mondays gets told when to take their leave; someone who doesn't work Mondays is open to negotiation.
The downside of this being a part-timer who works Mondays would end up using a bigger percentage of their leave entitlement to have bank holidays off than a part-timer who doesn't work Mondays.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0
