Lowell and old mobile phone debt

Options
Hello,

I'm a first time poster but have been trying desperately to get the answer to my query, but struggling, so hoping somebody can give me the info I need.

I have received a few letters and phone calls from Lowells regarding an apparent debt I owe to Orange from 5 years ago. I have looked at my credit file and it says I defaulted on a payment of £75 but Lowell are chasing £270. I haven't spoken to them at all, but I have been sent a Pre-Legal assessment letter.

I wanted to send a prove the debt letter as I have no idea what it is regarding, and I definitely do not know where the additional £195 on top of the default amount has come from. Is there a standardised letter I can send for this information? What information would they legally need to provide to prove this debt is mine? Not trying to run from the debt if it is mine, but I have no idea of what this debt is. As it is a pre-legal assessment letter, I don't want to ignore it and have it bite me on the backside.

Any help would be much appreciated. Sorry about the additional thread about these cowboys, but I've not been able to find the information I'm looking for.

Thanks.

    Hi,

The £75 is probably the amount of your last unpaid bill, and the rest will be made up of charges for the remaining months of the contract you had.

Provit letter will tell you more, available here :

For a mobile service agreement they will be no contract, copies of airtime bills will most likely prove liability.

    Hi Sourcrates,

Thank you very much for the link. I shall get the letter sent off as soon as possible.

I have seen a few threads saying that there is a need to pay a £1 to obtain the information. Would you know if this is the case with this letter?

Thanks again, it is much appreciated.

No, that only applies to a CCA request for information under sec 77/79 consumer credit act, which does not apply to mobile service agreements.
