just done an on line shop at Tesco. I normally buy Tesco's own brand chopped toms at 45p for a 400g tin. They're doing 4x400g Heinz chopped toms as a BOGOF and it works out at 24p a tin- only 3p a tin more expensive that the cheapo value chopped toms!

brown some cubes of boneless shoulder of lamb
then chuck in a cple of chopped red onions and 2-3 chopped garlic cloves and saute.
then chuck in;
1-2 diced peppers (I use the long, red sweet ones usually)
1 tin chopped toms
1 tbsp ras el hanout (moroccan mixed spice) you can use ordinary mixed spice but worth sourcing a packet of the proper stuff- I got mine from 'seasoned pioneers' on line.
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon harissa paste
1 handful chopped dried apricots (if you're going to cook it for longer, leave them whole as they tend to melt!)
1 handful flaked almonds
add a little bit of water if too thick
put in the oven at about 180 for about 60-90 mins, I sometimes put it in for 4 hours at 150-160ish-makes the lamb super tender.
it really is gorgeous, we have it with cous cous which soaks up all the lovely spicy juices0 -
Thanks for the recipe.
A favourite recipe with every MSE tip or comment would be greatly appreciated at this end.

MMMMMMMM I feel a tagine coming on. Thanks for the heads up for 'seasoned pioneers' it looks like an excellent site.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives.:j0

you're welcome, I make it at least once a fortnight, we love it- we get our lamb for £6.50 a kg from a local organic farm so that's a bargain too!
Not only is it organic, it's 'processed' on site so no stressful journies for the animals either. 0 -

Have to agree. My mother in law had something similar with rice at a restaurant a couple of weeks ago. Nicest thing I've tasted in ages.0
