Tax refund during mortgage application

Hello
Currently in the process of buying a house. Mortgage offer has been made and everything with that is fine. Awaiting a date to exchange contracts and planning to complete at the end of next month.
I've just received a tax rebate which is quite substantial and I've been advised that putting the cheque into my bank may not be sensible right now as the mortgage company may question where it came from. Although I can obviously easily prove it's from HMRC I wouldn't want anything to slow the process down. Has anyone come across a situation like this before? I'd ideally like to bank the cheque so that I can pay off my credit cards as one of my interest free cards is up this month and I'd rather not pay interest when I have money sitting here.
Can anyone help please?

I wouldn't worry about this. I used a large HMRC refund as part of my deposit without issue. I don't why they would have an issue with you receiving monies owed to you from a reputable source.0
