Afternoon. Lunch today is the other chicken and stuffing sandwich and I sliced a tomato but wrapped it separately so as not to soggy up my sandwich. Crisps, a pineapple jelly with chopped pineapple in and a cheeky chocolate biscuit
Not feeling too well today am shivery, hot, achy and a strange rash coming up on my chest so I may go to the walk in centre after work.
Caronc Hope the side effects settle down soon for you, you must be fed up.
Money Enjoy your buffet they are my favourite thing!
ETA: Forgot to say that tea tonight is going to Caron's/Nigel Slater's pea pasta recipe with added shredded chickenSeems we are on similar thoughts today, except mine is lamb shank, cheat version from Lidl & only needs nuking, my steamed veg will certainly feature runner beans, plus boiled new spuds that have been kicking around so long that any more eyes and it will be Specsavers a job
If I get around to doing them, stewed windfall apples & yoghurt could be pudding
Asda was YS light, well there were some but of no interest to me. For any butter lovers, Asda has Loseley butter, on offer £1 for 250g [£1.70 Waitrose]. I took 3 long dated to November so plenty for me, and I much prefer butter to marge
Brunch today was last of the kipper pate on last toasted crust
Lunch was the long promised cheese salady sarnie
Dinner will be as above
Gardening later, just tying in the new blackberry canes for 2018 crop before they get too leggy and unmanageable
PS, SG, hope your walk helpsmoneyistooshorttomention wrote: »Yep...duly had said buffet for lunch. As anticipated - loadsa cakes/biscuits/posh crisps were there.
But I stuck to a brown bread (hopefully wholemeal) roll. Tiny bits of 2 different cheeses/green salad/tomatoes/hummus/think it was guacamole?/4 different fruits (so 1 banana, 2 satsumas, 1 peach).
Well - it's "August:eek:". Which to me has equalled "That" month of the year for quite some time - ie even back in Home City (ie where there is loads more stuff going on - but it goes rather quieter than normal). In fairness - a noticeable amount more stuff has started to happen here since I moved to the area (well....a little bit of it is related to that fact, as I've played my little part in expanding something that I think/feel pretty sure would be "dead" by now otherwise - but not most of it). It's quite noticeably "livelier" than it was when I moved here (which I obviously approve of).
Everything/everybody is now officially going to go very "quiet" for weeks now - which I personally don't like and it's much worse in such a "family-centred" part of the country as I'm now in. Personally - I do tend to like "action" and it's what I'm used to...
So - telling myself the plus side (besides the fact I've learnt what "August" here is like well enough by now to know to schedule catching-up with chores/etc in until it's through) - so maybe I'll be able to focus rather more on food then.
There are loads of projects on the to-do list for food:
- fermented food
- make my own sourdough bread
- have a go at making my own flat breads of various descriptions
- vegan "cheeses" to experiment with
- some different options for breakfast to experiment with
Hmm.... - wonders how many of them I'll get round to...
Other "catch up" stuff on the agenda for the month - so we'll see.
It has been like winter here today and some hideous rain, I've got socks & a cardi on and I'm still not overly warm so I'm glad I'm having a roast dinner. :)The pork is in and I'll prep a veggie bake and crumble shortly so the oven is full. I'm just going to have mash from the freezer and some savoy cabbage & peas with it (and of course gravy). I don't think I fancy a yorkshire pud but I'll see how a feel when it's nearly ready. I'm swithering between using mushroom or celery soup for the bake - suspect it will be the first one I put my hand on in the cupboard;)0 -
The lamb shank was very nice, especially as it was "nuke in the bag", 7 minutes, job done
Had it with steamed veg, and I cooked extra to give me a base for bubble & squeak or similar during the week when ideas and gumption are lacking
I did stew the apples, they are nearly ripe now, fine to eat raw even. Not keepres though have to be eaten or somehow preserved. I added some cloves to the apples during cooking. I do like cloves in them.
My kids hated them with cloves in, meant they had to chew their food or swallow a clove. I did tell them how many were in there so normal service could resume once all had been spotted. Wicked old dad eh?
Blackberries tied in for 2018, washing nice & fresh from the sun & breeze. All's well at Farway Towers, time for a sit down and a cuppa, Hurrah no bikkies left to tempt meEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Sounds like a tasty dinner Farway, I don't mind a few cloves but do prefer ginger or cinnamon. I do love a glazed ham studded with cloves though:D0

Caron The pasta was lovely and a definite make again meal. I'm feeling a bit better thanks and just cba going and waiting at the walk in centre so came home, had a shower and ate instead. Can't be that ill if I'm still hungry :rotfl:
Faraway Faraway Towers sounds an organised and lovely place to be this evening. You have inspired me to have a go at growing something next year I'm just not sure what yet.
PN I get headaches if I sleep in the day sadly which is a shame as I'd like a nap now and again. I have suffered with migraines since I was 19 years old and will do anything to avoid one. Hope you're not coming down with something.
Money Your willpower is much much better than mine I'm impressed. Was it Kate Moss that said nothing tastes as good as thin feels? Wish I could subscribe to that train of thought
I have had the heating in for an hour as the house and me were cold when I got home. I don't think I've ever put it on in August before  It is raining and horrible so I'm planning on what soups to make this week. So far I'm going to do a spicy lentil, a celery and potato and a tomato. Should give me a few lunches to be going on with.0 -

Oh Meg pooryou hope snuggling down and comfort food help banish the lurgy.
Unusually for me I wasn't up until well after 9am so will miss breakfast and just have an early lunch. I've pork pie in the fridge so I'm going to have that with some beetroot and LO cabbage from last night. I might have a spot of the crumble afterwards. Tonight is easy belly pork , stuffing and veggie bake that all just needs heating up:)
It's tipping it down just now but if the forecast is correct it should clear a bit later so I hope to get a wee bit of deadheading done in the garden. Autumn is definitely well on it's way!0 -
SunnyGirl - now who was it said "You can never be too rich or too thin"?:rotfl:. I tend to subscribe to that theory - though I've always reckoned that if I get "surplus money" (ie more than is needed for a reasonable house and lifestyle) then I'd just give it away to good cause/s.
Not that I'm likely to be in that position anyway. Can't ever see my finances improving beyond the "own a 3 bedroom genuinely detached house in reasonable area/have reasonable cost social life" standard:(. (For info. - current house is 2 bedroom and smaller garden/worse location than I would freely choose).
Though - I am thinking "I might buy a drink to go with dinner on the strength of that" from post I've had over the last few days. Which I've been reading into with some astonishment - as it looks like I might be due for some money I've not been expecting and hadnt the foggiest idea about. But it's not going to be that much if it happens and it is a somewhat astonished "if" - so I'll leave a full scale celebration until I see if I'm right about it or no and that could take a while to come to fruition (ie months). Caution and my usual cynicism is indicated unless and until I find out if I'm right or no. Much googling has been done to try and check it out...and the result of which shows it's not going to be that much to write home about IF it is due - but enough to bring a smile to my face iyswim.
I've just coined a new phrase - "That's a cake that will take a while in the baking".
Not even thought about food for the day - must go shopping and see what "takes my fancy".....0
