PN, I had an aunt who used to have a cottage near the sea and when I was a child we used to go and stay. There were always chocolate crispie cakes on the menu. She would pack a picnic hamper full of goodies and we would sit on the beach and devour them. I think the sea air increased our need for food x 3 :)

I bet she did the typical "old school style" recipe, where you blend marg/butter with golden syrup and cocoa powder. I used to make them like that, but this time I just cheated and melted shop-bought chocolate (that actually grubbies up your hands when you eat it).

    Good evening everyone,
Just popping in to say:hello:, during a few moments of relative calm.
Elder son and his partner arrived just after 11 am as they left just before 4am and missed a lot of the traffic. They've headed off to the pub for an hour to catch up with friends. Younger son has nipped to the SM as he has run out of razor blades so I'm enjoying a cuppa before I make up the kiltie sausages. :)
Reading back it sounds as though everyone is fairly organised for Christmas. I wonder if the SMs will be busy tomorrow or empty?
  • Well impressed PN you are so organised :T, I'll do most of my prep tomorrow, I'm another who after spending ages prepping and cooking when I eventually sit down to eat I've kinda gone off the idea or just cant face it all _pale_

I got the freezer organised and inventory updated, I've tried putting some of the oldest and duplicate items nearer the front, in the hopes that I don't have to remove several things to find what I need/want to use up. Tonight I'm using up the last 3 small falafel patties with some of the ratatouille and a couple of garlic bread slices.

I still had a slab of gingerbread in the freezer that I made about a month ago, its now defrosted so I'll go drizzle some icing on the top, before I sit down to watch episodes 1&2 of Bette & Joan on the iplayer, missed it last weekend and 3&4 are on tonight :D

    I won't take that badge :)
It's not organisation that drives me - it's laziness coupled with a CBA attitude with a backdrop of "but now you've got so far you have to reach the finish line, even if you despise it".

I was dead lucky that I managed to randomly find the oomph to do what I did today. First thing this morning I nearly posted that I wouldn't bother with the nut roast .... and later on today I did ask myself if I NEEDED roast spuds at all :)

Now I'm "a bit ahead" I stand a chance of completing on Monday!

But it's certainly NOT due to organisation at all :)
  • Me - I'm still eating up the "food I dont want to eat any more - at least for a while". So lunch was toast/use-up goats cheese/tomatoes/olives and followed by yogurt with fruit.

Dinner - better go and get some. Use up the last of the use-up udon noodles and some home-grown tomatoes hoicked out of the freezer + whatever else comes to mind to make myself a stirfry (thinks....spinach/peas...hmm).

Still got quite a bit of soya fake "mince" to use up (organic of course:)) and loads of cheese (but it's mainly more specialist now - nearly finished yer "basic" ones).

Taken the recommendation on board of a different type of hot sauce (not made from chillis this time) and found it in Tesco this morning - so I've got a bottle of that now. Time for a cautious taste test in a minute - and hope that doesnt end up going out the door to friends husband, as well as the sriracha sauce....

Having said that, a friend went shopping this morning and couldn't get mince pies, stollen, any of the Christmas desserts in four different supermarkets and had trouble finding a suitable turkey crown. So it may be that there won't be much about this year :(.
    .

Although I was not shopping for such items I did notice that nearly all the frozen turkeys, including crowns, had gone, and this was at 0930 this morning.
I'm glad now I bought my crown when I spotted one last week

I made four mince pies using the LO shop bought ready made puff pastry, more fridge space. They have turned out very well, wish I had bought more of the pastry, but I didn't, so note to self for next December
But given price of the ready roll pastry + jar of mince it is cheaper to buy them sometimes, guess quality & size will have a bearing on that of course

The Lild mushroom Wellington was fine, but I'll not buy them again, unless on an offer I can't refuse

I take it back and replace it with I'm loving your spurt of energy and motivation :D

I've just removed my frozen turkey breast from the freezer and popped it in the fridge. The pack says to defrost leave it 24-36 hours. It'll be going into the slow cooker at about 8am Monday - although until I actually get up and do it, you can never tell what'll happen :) If I can't sleep and it's 6am I could put it on .... and if at 8am I peek out and think CBA to get up ...then I won't :)

Lunch is planned for 1-2pm, so it's still daylight and I can see what I'm eating!

PN I lifted my crown out this morning, and we plan to eat at 1pm. Thanks re the parsnips! So I sort of parcook like pots then?
Veg prep tomorrow, dd2 will come and help.
Just had 2 fish fingers with cheese on a thin, white garlic mayo spread on one side and tom sauce on other. It's weird how I don't feel like eating but I'm enjoying what I do eat!!!
I'm sure I heard some supermarket was going to have less turkeys and replenish so the dates wouldn't need selling off at Xmas eve!

Here's a quick snap of my part-cooked roasties... to be finished on the day.

I only cooked two spuds... I'll eat about 2 pieces of this lot on the day probably.
