    Morning everyone

It's a cold wet and miserable day here today and I fancy comfort food.

I've had porridge for breakfast and then a slice of toast and honey. I've gone from too many eggs last week to needing to get some tomorrow. I used quite a few up making cakes.

There is a chicken casserole in the slow cooker for dinner tonight. I've used three chicken breasts so that I can freeze two portions. Although the freezers are pretty full again I do like to have some home-made 'ready meals' in there. I'll have that with mashed potato and steamed veg.

Lunch will be whatever I fancy when the time comes, but it will probably be something hot, possibly a toasted cheese sandwich.

How mini is your chopper and would you recommend it? I'm looking for something small so I can blitz ingredients together, chop dates etc. But something mini enough to fit in a mini kitchen and not cost the earth. Someone mentioned something the other day but nearly fell over when I googled and saw the prices:(

I bought a mini chopper from sainsbugs (own brand £9.99 :T) does the job perfectly well for me cfo, its large enough to get a whole avocado in for guacamole and a tin of chickpeas for hummus, great for breadcrumbs and chopping up nuts, dried fruit, onions etc.

    Good morning everyone,
Wet and windy here too with severe wind forcast for later:(.
I had some of the cooked LO filling from last night spread on my breakfast toast - it was tasty so I think the other bit will just be getting used this way again tomorrow. Lunch will no doubt be a sarnie or I might have eggs & something. All the talk over the last few days has given me a notion for spag bol so unless I change my mind later that will be dinner tonight as I've sauce in the freezer:D.

Thanks. Just looked at the website but can't find it - tried all versions of chopper/blender/ processor without success. Do you have it's name or model number so I can try again.

I want it really for all those things you mentioned:)
  • I just had my usual seeded toast with spinach and some green tea for breakfast.

I'm going to make Quorn fillets, roast potatoes, peas and carrots later for dinner. I have vanilla ice cream and fresh fruit for pudding.

Morning All, cold and wet here too.

Caronc I have to agree with you remoulade is delish and I will definitely make that again.

I had a bit of a senior moment yesterday whilst making the stuffing for my Mediterranean peppers - I was in a bit of a rush and put what I thought was couscous in a bowl with some boiling water, after about 10mins went to fluff it up - but nothing to fluff, it hadn't absorbed any of the water, so quickly cooked up some bulgar wheat and used it instead, whilst it was cooking I realised that it was quinoa not couscous in the bowl, so I then cooked it.

So todays challenge, should I wish to accept, is to do something interesting (not a salad) with leftover cooked quinoa.

Cant remember how long ago it was that I bought it from sainsbugs, and yes there website not so good for doing a search. I have just done a quick search on internet and found the goodhousekeeping institute have done a comparison of quite a few and the sainsbugs one is mentioned there.

Glad you enjoyed the remoulade :). What about burgers with the quinoa?

I've gone with: 4 fish fingers in a big bread roll and chips. Cooked in the mini oven today.

That freed up space in the freezer as I removed the empty fish finger packet and a bread roll and some chips.

I need to run down the drawer a bit - even with one drawer running there are foods in there that are "lurking" a bit.
  • Had an idea from a blogger on YouTube re taking a rice-cooker with her whenever she travels and thought "Wonder if I could cook rice in my slow cooker?"

Bit of googling later and...yep...in a word.

So rice would be 1 cup brown (thats the type I use) rice and 2 cups water. Rinse rice. Put in slowcooker and cook on high 3 hours (stirring once during it).

Followed by thinking "What about quinoa?". Yep....quarter cup quinoa and half cup water. Rinse quinoa. Cook quinoa in water on high for 3-4 hours.

Hmmm....I can feel some experimenting coming on. Ideal to have a way of cooking that I dont have to pay attention to.

Has anyone tried this or anything similar in a slowcooker? What was the result?
