Batgirl / Supergirl Costume

My DD (aged 15) is going to a 'heroes' fancy dress party in half term and is looking for a batgirl or supergirl costume but all the ones we can find are around £40 which seems very excessive for one night! Anyone got any ideas - and before you ask, no I can't sew:rotfl:

Could you not ask a neighbour who you are on good terms with to make one or you help her to make it,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

Yippee! a chance to share pic of my dd!
i made this supergirl costume for a fancy dress competition.
All i did was cut a big rectangle of red satin to go around her, hemmed the bottomed and sewed some elastic to make a waist band and just pulled it in to gather it.
Hemmed rectangle and stiched it to shoulders of t-shirt to make the cape.
Belt was made using a strip of yellow pvc and just folded.
T-shirt was a plain blue t-shirt I got from asda for 75p, and bought an iron on transfer from ebay!
The whole thing cost me just over a fiver and I got material v cheap from a market! Obviously for a 15 year old you'd need more fabric but it's still cheaper that £40 to buy one!
Very little sewing involved or you could use wonderweb (perfect for superheroes!!!) or just use decent sissors so fabric doesn't fray and safety pins etc to hold it all together!
HTH

I'm sure I saw some in Asda but only glanced at them so not sure what size they were or what characters - they were £25 though which I think is still steep.:rolleyes:0

If you hire online, fingers crossed you get the costume in time, due to the postal strikes etc, all couriers working flat out. Something on GMTV this morning about a fancy dress costume company which has lost loads due to the Royal Mail strikes. Good Luck, hope you find something in time.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0
