If you give her acne products for her birthday, she's going to hold a grudge, no matter how well intentioned.

You say that you have a feeling that skincare isn't something that she does. How do you know? Have you spoke to her about this. Perhaps you could have a chat with her or her mother if your that concerned. If you had a chat with her, she might appreciate it more than being given acne products.

My teenage daughter has trouble with spots and Lush products are great for her skin - without making a fuss, a Lush facemask etc for her birthday would be a nice present.

(Having said that, I had spots as a teenager and they only went away when I got older and grew out of that phase not because of any change in my skincare routine.)

Seriously? I take on a room full of girls aged 10-14 every week and auntie gifting acne cream for a birthday would have most of them either really upset or really angry.

The vast majority of that age group know how to look after their skin. It's in every teen magazine, all the girly teen vloggers will talk about their favourite products and these are what girls watch and listen to these days.

Your niece doesn't need you pointing out that she has bad skin, she knows!

Stick some money in her card and tell her to spend it on what she likes.

If you happen to win a raffle and get a box of oily skin products that you'd never use in a million years you could casually donate them to your niece but nowhere near her birthday or Christmas

Last year I suffered from spots and oily skin and did a lot of research into my skincare routine and have spent a small fortune on finding the right things.

Do not use foamy washes on oily skin. I use Superdrug B Glycolic Cleansing peel as a daily wash. I have also used the Elemis Cleansing balm, and Liz Earle cleansers but I particularly rate the Superdrug cleanser.

Facial oils work wonder on oily skin. I have used Pai and Nude Skincare oils.

I also use Alpha-H Liquid Gold but a much cheaper option would be Pixi Glow Tonic.

Check out the Caroline Hirons blog for lots of info on skincare and acne too.

Actually if you want to stick to one brand you could buy Pixi Double Cleanse, with Glow Tonic and the Glow Mud Mask would be a good start and I don't think these are too expensive. I'm sure you can find a nice gift-set, which would be lovely to receive without being insulting.

I've got a teenager daughter (with spots) and she would appreciate skincare products carefully chosen, something from the lush range or something well out of her pocket money range, but has the 'wow' factor to teens. Include it with other items too, so you don't seem so focussed on spot treatment.

I'm 33 and still have acne. I currently have spots on my chin and a cystic acne above my eye.

Over the past 20 years I have tried:
    Clearasil
    Oxy on the spot
    Clean and clear
    Benzoyl peroxide
    Salicylic acid
    Acne.org regimen
    Agnus castus pills
    Lymecycline antibiotics
    Freederm
    Dianette pill
    adapalene
Erythromycin antibiotic lotion (stank like vinegar)
Currently I'm trying dermalex acne (but thinking I want to go back to benzoyl peroxide)

Please don't think that people (whatever their age) with spots don't care about their skin.
