JCB Ultrasonic distance measure for £1

Was in my local Focus DIY this afternoon and at the end of an aisle they had some JCB ultrasonic measures on sale for £1 each. Come in a blister pack complete with a 9v battery. Bought three as X'mas prezzies. Have been measuring rooms all afternoon !:rotfl:

Seems to be pretty accurate within a centimetre or so. It says my nose is 76cm away from the screen. Seems about right :rotfl:

Ultrasonic measures tend to the accurate to 10% (may have improved in recent years?), and it varies on air temperature and humidity. They are OK for rough measure, but not for anything which you need to be accurate.

Also they don't work too well off ceramic tiles, some smooth surfaces and cloth materials. And they need a wide flat area with no projections or obstructions.

Know their limitations and they are useful, and at £1 a bargain - the 9v battery would cost that much
