O/S Daily Friday 14 July 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Wet underfoot and raining here.
Dinner last night was pork escalopes with pasta in a creamy mushroom sauce for the menfolk, I had caponata - made from aubergine, peppers, onions, courgette, mushrooms, broc, tom puree, red wine vinegar, balsamic and soy sauce, had that with cous cous - was really delish and there's a portion of each in the fridge for a meal today. Dinner tonight for the menfolk will be breaded chicken portions, chips and beans, I'll have either the LO's from last nights' meal or I may make a shepherds pie, I'll be making enough to make couple spare to put in the freezer, they will be ok for me to eat whilst on the diet, menfolk not overly keen on shepherds pie, so I'll have those when they have something that's not really diet friendly.
I wasn't particularly productive yesterday and didn't really achieve much, and today I have a couple of jobs to do, so I'll just get done what I can, I must do the ironing at some point though, I'm working tomorrow too, so lose the morning. I did strip and remake our bed, bed linen all washed and line dried, also did did 3 loads of washing which all got line dried too. Menu planned and wrote shopping list for today.
I'll just potter along getting done what I can.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc
Hugs to those in need or want,
Welcome to the Mrs Lnd, and Elf.
TFI Friday, one more week to go then a 6 week break, no chance of a lie in though as I still have to get to work.
I have 106 days left until I retire, if I've counted correctly, a colleague made a really unpleasant remark to me yesterday, spiteful cow, hey ho, I just smiled sweetly and asked if god had told her to say it. She's always lecturing us because she 'has given her life to Jesus' and she looks down on those of us who haven't!
Have aa good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A rubbish night for me and feel like the proverbial wet rag. Could have gone to sleep when it was time to get up but with the 3 DGDs to sort out for school, feed and water, before the school run, no chance of that. Then once they have been delivered to school there is the much needed Friday Tidy and clean round to do. Maybe this afternoon I will get chance to have a nanny nap.
The hospital visit yesterday took up most of the day, with all the travelling involved. The Oncology appointment itself went ok. Injection given, blood tests done and discussion with the specialist NET nurse. Just time when we got back into Leeds for the market visit and got loads of bargainous stuff, including bag of 7 peppers for £1, 2 butternut squash for £1 and loads of tubs of fruit. We were like pack horses on the train back. I shared my stash out with DD when she dropped the girls off.
Not much cooking to do today as there is a pile of mash and assorted veg in the fridge left over from last night. Just need to root out something from the freezer to go with it!
Have a good day folks and (HUGS) for the poorlies, sad or worried who want them. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good Morning chums and another year has passed ,14 years since I lost my OH and tonight I will be with my family eating, and laughing with our memories of him.We do this every year on this day and remembering all the daft things he did to make us all laugh and smile.
Yesterday my DGS Danny rang me from NYC and we had a nice long chat and today I had a message from DGS Ben who is in Canada at the moment with his g/f. I shall see my two DDs later today and the other grandchildren as well.
Hope you all have a good day what ever you are doing
Cheers Chums JackieO

Morning all and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Another rather dull day, but not raining, that'll be because the weatherman said it would be raining right around now.
I did the Friday Tidy yesterday although, as ever, it needs a small Friday re-tidy now.
I'm making southern fried chicken (soooo healthy) tonight so need to get the chicken, which defrosted overnight) into herbs and spices. I might make some cornbread to go with it, and coleslaw. Need to go to the PO to get some toys and baby clothes posted off go their recipients but other than that, no big plans.
A man us coming to replace handles on two windows today (assuming he rocks up) as at present our bedroom window is kept shut with a cunning arrangement of a pole and washing line. It has to remain shut as it took OH a while to fix it like that in the winter rather than blowing open and letting the rain in. The handle in the sitting room fell off a few weeks ago, we can just about close that but only pulling it to iyswim, so very insecure if a burglar fancied their luck.
As usual, I have washing ready to go on the racks, hoping to get it dry .
Have a good day
ETA JackieO have just read your post, RIP Alan and will think about your family sharing your memories xxI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
Its a bit grey and overcast here today looks like it might rain, off to work for me but its Friday :j Take away and wine tonight
Unbelievably I think I have another cold starting, I not sure if this is the 5th or 6th sine last winter and I have only just got rid of one ! I hope its a cold winter this year to kill off any bugs. I never normally get one !
The dw has completely died and is in my garden, you don't realise how much you rely on them I need to replace it asap
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Good morning all.
Yesterday my drive down here was as lovely as I had hoped it to be. Sorting out DM's new mobile provider was a touch faffy but I got onto 'live chat' with a BT agent who sorted it out. Then I just chilled, read a bit and chatted with DM as much as we could as she's very deaf.
Today there's the TV aerial engineer calling about 9am'ish to (finally) retune the set in the kitchen. Then we're off out into town as DM wants a new pair of shoes. I hate shoe shopping with her. We once schelped round every shoe shop in Newcastle, where I used to live, and the horror has never left me!
I'm enjoying the fibre broadband here, especially more after my woeful week at home. :rotfl:
Welcome to our newbies.
Happy memories JackieO, they always soothe the soul.
Happy Friday to all.0 -
Morning everyone,
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
Having had my grey roots coloured yesterday thankfully I’m no longer rocking the badger look. My hairdresser has worried me though because he says that my hair is snapping off and I am shedding a lot. I had noticed that a lot of hair comes out when I wash and blow-dry it, but hadn’t really thought about it. I will mention it to my GP when I see him next week because it could be part of my other health problems.
Today I am going to pop to Aldi for some eggs fairly soon before it gets busy. Other than that, I have absolutely no plans for today. Maybe a bit of housework, sweep the path to the front door but that is about it. I will probably spend some time reading and as usual if the weather is good I will take my book up to the part.
Life is becoming pretty monotonous at the moment. Every day is starting to feel the same. Oh well, I will see what today brings.
I hope that you all have a good day whatever you are doing.0 -
Redruby, I have never had a dishwasher but am sure that if I did, I'd really miss it if it broke. I know I'd struggle to manage the washing without a washing machine, though obviously washing machines are a luxury or at least we're when I was small.
TA I don't dye my hair but it is pretty long and can get tangly so sometimes I comb oil through, leave it a bit and then wash it, am hoping this might reduce the breakage rate, possibly something to try. I have seen adverts for food supplement thingies aimed at hair improvement, never used them though.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning :hello:
I've been lucky enough not to come across superior, arrogant bossy dog “experts” while we're out walking, until yesterday that is. Have had a couple of know-alls, but not like this - Man walks past with his dog, Scampi kicks off. Completely my fault, I didn't see them coming. Man doesn't stop but yells 'YOU need a shorter lead, YOU need to show him who's boss, YOU …......... blah blah blah'. I have a short speech which will shut this sort of person up (been dying to use it, lol) but because he was walking away I didn't have time to execute it. So I just told him what an idiot he was and to go forth and multiply. I apologised to the woman I was talking to (who had her dog with her and who Scampi had perfect manners with) but she thought it was hilarious and was already laughing
It's been very noisy here for a couple of days, I was starting to wonder if there was a war on but then realised it's the Fairford air show this weekendThe planes fly in over my house, we're a good few miles away but they're quite low by the time they reach us so we usually get a good view of them. But it's been cloudy so it's a bit disappointing to hear them but not see them.
I have a bit of work to do this morning then I'm not sure what's happening. It's mr tru's day off so it's pointless to make plans, he'll just mess them up! Hopefully it'll be a quiet day.

Morning everyone,
Bit dull and overcast here, hope it brightens up as we are off to the races :j
It's the July meeting, by tradition Gentlemen's Day and my favourite race day of the year, everyone dresses up and drinks champagne, well Prosecco  youngest DSS is taking the day off his summer job and coming with us as he did last year. The eldest has just started his new job so can't make it.
So will need to be beautifying myself this morning, could take some time :rotfl:
Not sure about tea, maybe a freezer dive, maybe a takeaway treat.
Have a good day folks, enjoy your day with family Jackie and memories of your beloved Alan x0
