    We offer an advance (at least informally) to any new joiner who won't get onto payroll in their first month. So I've got someone starting next Monday, and I finalised payroll today, without adding them.

    If the OP finds that their first payday isn't going to be until August, and that's going to cause a problem, it is always worth asking about an advance.
