Hi
Does anyone know if civil service always start you at the bottom of the scale when recruiting external candidates or is starting salary negotiable?
Also how long do they normally take to let you know after interview?
Many thanks

Depends on department.
Some (most?) no longer have pay scales but a single spot rate.
Some have a policy of new entrants starting at the botttom but with various options for somebody senior to sign off on higher starting pay if they can't fill the post at the bottom salary or for "exceptional candidates"0 -
In today`s Civil Service you will start at an entry point and for the vast majority of jobs now there is now NO progression - ie the only pay rises you will get is the annual % rise which may or may not be consolidated (ie count to your pension).
Last year my payrise was 0.7% consolidated.
As for how long it takes to get back to you, I dont know.0 -
Hi
Thanks, so it seems the salary quoted in the advert is the range in which they will offer you to start, with no automatic progression. So they will decide if the candidate is bottom of scale or higher.
Confusing, but I understand now
Thanks0 -
