Please Post Your Exceptional Fruit Finds

It would be good to have place to post about any really good quality fruit buys that posters have found.

As is often lamented on the boards, fruit is generally disappointing these days. Perhaps it's due to being picked too early, so it goes straight from under-ripe to off without passing through ripe. Fruit is often tasteless, dry, sour or just plain rotten.

Then just occasionally you'll buy, say, some grapes and be hit with flavour that makes you stop in your tracks as you realise this was how grapes were always meant to be.

Likewise Granny Smiths can be either dry, tough and flavourless, or, occasionally, they can be the best apples you've ever eaten. It's hard to tell the difference by looking.

Perhaps worst of all are the small peelable orange citrus varieties. I struggle to remember when I last had some that tasted like they did 30 years ago, but perhaps there are still good ones out there to be bought . . . somewhere?

If you do happen across some exceptional fruit, please post obviously what and where plus any other helpful info such as variety, country of origin, whether loose or packaged, etc.

I wouldn't say they taste exceptional, but Morries are selling Honeydew melons (whole ones) for £1 at the moment. That's half price from their normal price of £2 and the cheapest I've seen.

I love the flat peaches (packaged) that Tesco's sell. They are different, and at the moment are half price at 49p a pack.

I used to buy those all the time but the last few weeks ones were rock hard one day and then soft and wrinkly the next so I had to bin them.

Gutted as they are usually lovely.

I love L1dl seedless red grapes.
Tried the 4ldi ones and they weren't as nice.

They come pre-packaged/wrapped in a plastic punnet at ~£1.70, which is why I buy so few.... but they do taste nice.

Having said that, I've never had red grapes before, so who is to say what's good/not ?
