FTB - So what next?

I've had an offer accepted, our Mortgage broker has a DIP with Bank of Ireland and the full application will be submitted tomorrow.

I've been recommended a solicitor who have quoted a price I am happy with, however they want a £300 for Searches, does this have to be paid now or a little further down the line once I have the Mortgagee approved? I don't want to pay money out now if it could be a waste.

L&C have also said that Bank of Ireland will be doing a standard survey and that if I wanted a full structural survey this can be arranged by myself, again is this a much later date?

Apologies for the 'general' questions, I'm not sure what should be happening when and the search function wasn't great.

Cheers
