Manchester United match tickets

Can anybody tell me how to book tickets for a Man Utd match? I do not have any contacts in football clubs etc, nor am I a season ticket holder. I want to book the tickets as a birthday surprise for my husband.
I have seen Travel Solutions adverts in the newspaper for sailing to Old Trafford, these include a match ticket but I don't want my husband to have to spend two nights sleeping on a boat! So I thought of booking flights and a cheapie hotel, but I do need the match ticket.
I know the tickets would be expensive (so this is not Money saving as such), but as this is a special birthday, I would like to get one for him but I don't have a clue how or where.
Please help.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for that Kyral.
Oh my goodness, I thought the tickets would be expensive...but not as expensive as that!!!!! £300 to £600 for the games he would be interested in (Chelsea, Liverpool, etc). Definitely out of my price range.
Thanks0 -
Its a rip off.I looked at taking my son to a chelsea match, cheaper for a week in Spain!!0

Had the same problem last year to get Liverpool tickets as a present for my sons GCSE results.
I used https://www.skeltontravel.co.uk
I have to say excellent service throughout, they did same day travel and tickets by coach but as I'm 70 miles from Belfast I couldn't get there by bus in time, so instead I took their ticket and hotel package. 2 nights in the Ibis Style hotel in the city centre and 2 match tickets for the Watford game, we ended up with Kop tickets too right next to the pitch :T
Flights to Liverpool had to be arranged by ourselves, but proved very cheap.
Prices do go up for what clubs call Cat A matches, usually against the top 6 or a derby Man U v Bournemouth on 12th Dec is £99 day return by coach at present :TI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
Sign up to official membership which is £32 a year for an adult & I belive £22 for junior. This then gives you access to apply for tickets & get them before they go on general release. I did this & bought tickets (totalling £52) for me & my son yesterday for a match just after Christmas.Dwy galon, un dyhead,
Dwy dafod ond un iaith,
Dwy raff yn cydio’n ddolen,
Dau enaid ond un taith.0 -
Just be mindful though that these games can get changed if the tv companies decide to televise them.
Had experience of this (not in the premier league) where we booked our own flights cheaply and then the game got changed to the following day and we lost our flight money.0 -
Thanks everyone for your replies. Very helpful!0

Join a supporters club and get them for face value, you'll get ripped off going for a package deal etc0

I know this sounds stupid, but how do you join a supporter's club? Do you mean the mean the Man Utd yearly subscription for, was it £32?
Thanks0 -
No I was meaning a local supporters club, they are all over the place.
They are informal clubs of supporters who get together and plan games and such, there is usually a club season ticket or two that gets shared etc. They can at least buy tickets easily also.
Not sure how up to date this is:

I would get in touch with one local to you, most proper fans will always be willing to help other fans, just tell them what you want to do. May need to join to get the help, but the fees are usually minimal.
Should have picked Chelsea though.0
