Oh really? Where have you bought for?

I can't believe I didn't think of this before... of course! Ikea would be perfect for a temporary first/long-term second bed.

We have two Ikea beds - they're actually great! Really sturdy frame for our main one, which has storage drawers underneath (it's the HEMNES range). We also then have a day bed from there which is in our spare room which is also really comfy.

When we first got some Ikea furniture, we lived in Nottingham so we went to the store and then had same day delivery as I recall! You pay for the privelege of course but so long as you factor that into the budget, the convenience element really helps. The pricing depends how close you are to a store. Or it did, back then.

We even have an Ikea sofa. Very happy with it! Ok it's not £x000s worth, but it's comfy and nap friendly.

We're buying at The Limes @ Leybourne Chase, in Kent. How about you? :)

    Morning!

How have others tackled the bed/sofa/dining table purchasing situation?

To answer that question.... second hand. I know its nice to have new things but its also nice to not be in debt. And Ikea is nice but there's no need to go splashing the cash until you've moved in. Do you know how many times you will actually use your dining table when you first move in. 0. Then you'll go through the effort of clearing it (it will become a dumping ground) so you can have a "welcome to my house" dinner party. Then it'll go back to being a dumping ground for stuff.

Live in the place for a while. Get to know what you want and how you live in the house. Can you not take the bed you sleep on at the moment? All second hand sofas will have the fire safety label and I think the British heart foundation will deliver (they also get new stock as well so worth a look)

Sorry to sound so grumpy but homes are expensive. Soon, the thought of spending a mortgage payment on a dining table you wont use will make you go
    [STRIKE]£2200[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£1950[/STRIKE][STRIKE]£1850[/STRIKE] £1600 on my credit card

Yes! Very good point, however the dining table isn't really our top priority. As you said, we won't use it much and it will mainly be for dinner parties and the odd working from home day. Naturally it's the sofa/bed first for us.

That's a nice idea but unfortunately not; the bed doesn't belong to us. I have no concerns about picking up credit for an interest free bed/sofa but once we've moved in. I don't plan on slapping the whole lot on a credit card to pay 25% interest for X years until I pay it off. It would be nice to, alongside the new house, have a nice new bed and sofa to go along with it.

A temporary BHF sofa might be a good idea :)
