Have I been daft?

First post so apologies if this in in the wrong section......
We got our full mortgage offer from the Halifax about six weeks ago and are currently waiting to exchange. The delay has been down to the buyers of our current property having a few issues with their lender but all sorted now.
Anyway, over the last few weeks I have been browsing this site and found it very interesting, especially regarding bank accounts that offer rewards etc. In my wisdom, I thought it would be a good idea to transfer the funds from our Halifax savings account into a more lucrative account so I chose the TSB Classic Plus which pays 3% interest and also rewards £10/month just for using the account. I also opened a Tesco Internet Savings account, basically just because I needed another DD and this seemed to be a simple solution.
I was feeling quite content with myself, until I came across certain threads suggesting it is unwise to open new accounts or take on new credit commitments before completion. I would never take out new credit, we are really sensible like that, but I am a bit concerned now that I may have unintentionally scored an own goal even though my intentions were purely to be a bit more savvy with our banking. I understand it is possible the Halifax will run another credit check before completion so will my actions ring alarm bells?

  • May I just add, my main bank account (ie for salary payment etc) is still with the Halifax. It is only the savings account that I closed and that was purely because the interest rate was so poor. I guess I'm hoping that even if they run another credit check, they would only be concerned by extra credit commitments, of which there are none.

These are not credit applications though (unless you also applied for an overdraft with the TSB account which would have been unnecessary if you were looking to make use of the credit balance interest rate)

    So you should be ok.
  • No, I definitely refused the overdraft offer as like you say it was unnecessary. I don't even have an overdraft facility on my main Halifax account because it's a requirement of the account that I stay in credit to qualify for the £3 reward. I know.....it makes me sound really tight :rotfl:
