So, I was offered a new job last week, which I have already had my acceptance letter and signed my contract for.
Due to how quickly the process moved, I wasn't able to meet with the recruiter that found me the job until yesterday. He planted a seed of doubt in my mind by highlighting the fact that my soon to be employer hasn't yet asked for references.
Straight after the meeting, I emailed my contact at the new company to ask when I would be required to give reference details. It's been 18 hours since I sent the email and I've not had a response. I know I'm being impatient and panicking over nothing, but what is the general process for asking for references and would there be a reason for them not replying?
I have already given my notice in at my current place of employment, so I'm a bit stuffed if the new place decides to retract their offer (I don't see why they would, but I'm a natural worrier)
Any advice/reassurance is appreciated!

Perhaps you've not had a reply because who ever at company is on holiday at this time? It might be something they expect their recruiter to deal with and so aren't going to reply on the matter.
While I'm imagining it isn't a high turn over type of place, not knowing the industry/sector it would be impossible to speculate any further.
I've started jobs before where references have gone literally through days before starting to arriving with the details in my hand on the first day to places where it is just less important anyhow.0 -
Does your acceptance letter say subject to references. If it does not perhaps they won't bother..0
