Tax return - leaving UK permanently

in Cutting tax
Has anyone recently applied for a tax return (before the actual end of the financial year) due to leaving the UK permanently? I'm interested to know if there have been any issues applying and claiming, and typically how long it has taken.
From my understanding after reading the HMRC site, I should be able to claim back most of my tax paid. Fingers crossed!

Are you just talking about PAYE taxes, or others?0

When you say tax return do you really mean P85?

Yes, 'tax return' is a bit of an Aussie term i guess.
From what I gather online (including the site you linked), if I for example earned £10K, and paid £1K in tax (not including NI), then I should receive all of it back. That's what the tax calculators are suggesting anyway.0 -
"Tax return" is a perfectly acceptable UK term, it's just not the right one for your needs. But yes, the chances are that if that's what you've earned then you will get the tax back - your full personal allowance is applied to your UK earnings in the 2017/8 tax year, which in your case will stop when you leave the country.0
