Shopacheck debt written off but Lowell chasing payment?

First post so go easy on me
been lurking for a while and the info on this forum is so helpful.
My partner and I are in the process of repairing our credit reports after being sucked in to a lot of debt during a period a few years ago when we both lost our jobs within the same month and didn't go about things financially as well as we should have.
One of my partners debts includes Shopacheck. When looking into the whole irresponsible lending and interest refund aspect of things we requested a statement of account from shopacheck. This has been recieved today and states "written off". However, Lowell are chasing the debt.
Is it that is actually has been written off, and therefore Lowell shouldn't really be chasing this, or by "written off" on the shopacheck statement do they mean they sold on the debt?
I'm pretty sure the debt shows on his credit file, and not sure how this should be reflected if it was in fact written off?
Any advice appreciated!

Hi,
Sounds like they have sold on the debt.
Unless they specifically wrote to you stating there were writing off the account, proceed on the assumption Lowell are the new owners, and you need to deal with them now.
However you can still pursue the irresponsible lending complaint with the original creditor, just write to Lowell and tell them a dispute exists and to back off for the time being until its resolved!!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Thank you.
We actually moved house quite a lot (not for debt related reasons I may add) and so don't recall getting a letter, but todays statement sent via email clearly states that the remaining debt was written off. I'll pop them an email and ask them to elaborate.0 -

Bear in mind that when Lowell buy debts, they don't pay much for them.
So a settlement deal should be possible if other avenues don't succeed.
They would normally be reporting to the credit agencies and should be using Shopacheck's default date0
