Advice on purchase of a washer/dryer

Hi
I need to buy a washer/dryer and would welcome recommendations. My budget is around £300 - £400. I am particularly interested in one that offers a quick wash cycle. I won't be using the tumble dryer much as it will really only be used in emergencies.
PS - Is there another thread I could/should post this on?
Thanks in anticipation.

Generally speaking - washer dryers tend to be pigs of things. We've had a couple and both have had pretty much the full internals replaced a couple of times over.
A friend of mine had one and had the same experience
If you really must, pay for a comprehensive warranty, but personally i'd opt for a good washing machine and a clothes horse.0 -
Thanks Motorguy. I'll look into the cost of the policy. I did have one years ago (about 30) and it was grand except expensive on electric, I'm hoping they are slightly more economical nowadays.Life isn't about waiting for the storm to passIt's about learning to dance in the rain0

Totally agree I have had 2 and never again I have just a washer and a small dryer which I never used as above a good clothes horse will save you money energy ways .~We are all going to hell and guess who Is driving the bus~*Norn Iron club Member 294* (Hi, we’ve had to remove part of your signature. Yep washer dryers are a bit crap. You can't dry the same amount as you wash. A full load wet won't dry. I had one about 10 years ago and never again.
Like the others say, get a decent washer and a clothes horse or better still a pulley maid if you have the space.
My machine has a good 10 minute quick wash cycle. More expensive than 400 but you'll get a decent siemens with a 5 year warranty for 400.
Look at donaghy bros. They price match the Internet.0 -
Okay dokey folks. Decision made. Washing machine only and I like the idea of a pulley maid.

Basically a drying rack that hangs from the utility ceiling. Great jobs. I wouldn't be without one now.0 -
I'm more of a fan of a clothes horse / airer ....

My problem is I can never be bothered putting the clothes horse away.0
